History

Mbuzipalooza was founded in 2002 to promote the interests of goats in America.  It all began when Returned Peace Corps Volunteers who had served in Kenya found a stray goat wandering the mean streets of Southeast DC and adopted it.  A tragic victim of bitter gang violence, the goat was starving and had been badly mistreated, but the RPCVs nursed him back to health.  In a few months, the goat (or "Huyu" as he had been named) once again had a shiny coat, normal weight, and a spring in his step.  So, the RPCVs ate him.  The rest is history.

Soon, word spread across the country, and now every year on Labor Day Weekend everyone-- both RPCVs and non-Peace Corps types-- joins together to celebrate in honor of Huyu.  The centerpiece of the festivities is the mbuzi choma feast, with all the traditional Kenyan sides: kabichi, chapati, sukuma, changa'a, ugali, kachumbari, and more.  There's also normal cookout food too, for the people who don't dig on the Kenyan stuff.

Every year Goat Roast gets bigger and better, and in 2010 the 7th anniversary of Goat Roast will be no exception!  Plans for this year include: more games, more food, more entertainment, more Corrupt Raffle prizes, more commemorative glassware, and fewer arrests!  Don't miss out on good times and good people... see you on 9/5/10.
